FACTORS INFLUENCING NURSES’ PARTICIPATION IN CLINICAL RESEARCH : A CROSS-SECTIONAL SURVEY IN HOSPITAL PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA

Background: Although the nurses in Malaysia are shouldering an important daily responsibility for providing optimal nursing care to patients, Bashar (2019) had noted that a majority of who were working public teaching hospital rarely applied evidence-based practice (EBP) when discharging their duties and responsibilities, despite having positive attitude toward (EBN). Therefore, it seems likely these Malaysian be encountering many barriers involvement clinical research [and also utilization (RU)]. Objective: This cross-sectional survey utilized self-administered questionnaire within study population government determine level at Hospital Putrajaya from May August 2015, which led assessment association between list pre-specified demographic job-related characteristics research, order identify any plausible factors might have with either facilitating or hindering research. Most Staff Nurses (75.2%), followed by Community (13.1%), Sister-KUP (7.7%) Sister (4.0%). A reported not interested doing (59.7%) two main reasons lack interest no (41.7%) did enough time do (25.7%). Less than half nurse previously involved (31.5%), several specific areas such as trials (36.6%) field preventive medicine (19.4%).The reason them being before (i) opportunity (43.7%) (ii) (27.4%). They read journals regularly (58.1%) confident interpreting medical literature (69.0%). Conclusion: Our findings shown both proportion (40.3%) those conducting (31.5%) remained very low. Hence, provides valuable formulating strategies increase nurses’ more opportunities, enhancing awareness increasing accessibility resources nurses. It is our sincere hope results obtained can aptly promoting quality ethical adequate support future endeavours.
